Our Laboratory
As a patient at Colorado Reproductive Endocrinology, you will not only receive world-class care from expert doctors, but also peace of mind from working with a highly specialized fertility lab.
Laboratory services offered by Colorado Reproductive Endocrinology include sperm preparation for donor insemination, intrauterine insemination, and semen cryopreservation. The CRE lab team also provides for embryo and egg cryopreservation (freezing) if needed.
Before starting the process of intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilization (IVF) many patients opt for laboratory genetic testing. These tests can be used to screen both of the parents for more than 100 diseases including fragile X syndrome, cystic fibrosis, and sickle cell.
At CRE, we can also arrange for preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) testing. Using this technique, a single cell is removed from an embryo and checked for any abnormalities before the embryo is implanted in the uterus.
To increase your chances of a successful pregnancy, our laboratory also offers advanced assisted reproductive techniques such as laser assisted hatchling and intracytaplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Assisted hatching softens the “shell” around the ooctye, or egg, to improve the odds of successful implantation.
The laboratory analysis results allow our physicians to recommend the best course of fertility treatment for our patients.
Our laboratory is supervised by embryologist Dr. Jonathan Van Blerkom who performed Colorado’s first successful in vitro fertilization procedure in 1982. Van Blerkom’s IVF laboratory has, in the past, been listed by U.S. News and World Report as being among the nation’s top ten laboratories dealing with advanced reproductive technologies.
